Bare Root

Tuesday, 5 December 2017

This time of the year is always one of our busiest, we’ve been lifting trees from the fields as they become dormant and then bring them down to our yards where they are ‘heeled in’ to sand beds. We now have a wide range of stock available ready for purchase in our Sales Yards

One of the most common questions we get asked is, why should we buy bare root? A bare root plant is one that has been lifted directly from the soil once it has become dormant, they are kept moist and then carefully dug into the temporary sand bed home. Due to the lack of a pot, they are much more economical which means that you can plant a whole hedge for a much lower cost, than if you were to purchase potted plants.

As they don’t have any soil around the base, they are substantially easier to be handled and transported, and the visible root makes it easier for you to check on the health of your plant. Unlike pot-grown, bare root tree and shrubs should be planted as soon as possible to ensure that the plant does not dry out.

If you would like to purchase any bare root stock, please either visit our website, call us or pop in where a member of our sales team will be ready to answer any queries that you have.
