Hedgehogs

Tuesday, 28 November 2017

Just one look at our company ethos will tell you just how much we love all sorts of creatures, big or small. This week, we’ve been particularly preoccupied with making sure our spiky friends are well looked after - ready for the onslaught of the cold weather we’re about to experience.

Hedgehogs hibernate from late autumn, however due to the mild weather we’ve had, some can still be seen out and about. As temperatures drop, they will find a cosy spot to make their nest for the majority of the winter and so it is our job to ensure that there are enough of these comfortable spaces about.

Piles of leaves or compost heaps make perfect hibernation nests, as do hedgerows which offer protection from the elements. If you are moving any of these items, or having a bonfire over the winter, make sure you thoroughly check for hibernating hedgehogs! If you find any, you can always relocate them to another hedgehog hidey-hole away from predators.

Here at Botanica we can help create exciting natural landscapes from the largest scheme of lakes and woodland to the smallest habitat. From the initial consultancy, to the implementation by our highly skilled landscape team, we offer exciting and imaginative concepts and schemes which will perfectly balance with the natural landscape, helping local wildlife and bringing you much pleasure. If you would like any further details on our services, do not hesitate to get in touch to see what we can offer you!
