Winter Solstice Blog
Wednesday, 20 December 2017
What seems like a long time ago, way back in June, we wrote all about the mystery surrounding the summer solstice. This time of year, on the 21st of December, just a few days before Christmas hits us, Winter Solstice will be upon us.
Officially this day is recognised as the shortest day of the year, there are many tales that those who celebrate believe. It has been said that the Winter Solstice is a time which represents rebirth, with the start of a new solar year, as the days slowly get longer and longer. Others believe that this is the time that the sun gods are reborn, only to die the following June.
Each year, revellers gather at Stonehenge as well as many other key locations, to watch the start of the shortest day, and celebrate knowing that tomorrow will be longer. For thousands of years, people have gathered in this location due to its precise location in regards to the sun.
For us here at Botanica it symbols the last full day that we are open, as we take a well-earnt rest over the Christmas Holidays. On the 22nd we will be open from 9 until 12, in the meantime, you can still place orders on the Website or via Email. We wish our customers very happy holidays, and cannot wait to welcome you again in the New Year.
