CATSHEAD APPLE

Catshead apple is a very old English apple variety probably dating back to the 1600’s so called because of its resemblance to a cat's head. It has also been known as ‘Pigs Snout’ which is a little more believable with its extra long conical and ribbed shape. Catshead apple produces fruit with pale greenish yellow skin and often with accompanying russet dots. Catshead has a juicy flesh with good acidity making a delicious firm ‘appley’ puree requiring little sugar. Ideal as stewed apple, apple sauce or jams requiring apple in the recipe. Pick early October – Keeps to January

Our Apple Catshead bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
