CLAYGATE PEARMAIN APPLE

Claygate Pearmain is named after the Surrey village of Claygate around 1822. Apple Claygate Pearmain soon became a popular variety during the Victorian and Edwardian periods; widely-grown in English estates and gardens alike. The taste has an excellent sweet sharp flavour with aromatic and nutty overtones. The flesh is soft but firm, the skin russeted with an attractive silvery sheen turning from a yellow green to a golden yellow over time in storage. Good disease resistance and quite reasonable storage qualities.

Our Apple Claygate Pearmain bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
