DOWNTON PIPPIN APPLE

Dowton Pippin is a very old apple from our Heritage range. Downton Pippin was a very popular apple in Victorian times and was named after Downton Castle in Shropshire. it produces small to medium sized, round fruit with a greenish yellow skin turning attractive gold with some russeting. Deep creamy flesh, crisp and juicy with an intense flavour. Unusually for a dessert apple it also cooks well, keeping its flavour. Keeps to end November

Our Downton Pippin bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
