EGREMONT RUSSET APPLE

Egremont Russet apples have been considered one of the finest dessert apples for well over a century, very popular in the Victorian era. Supposedly raised by the Earl of Egremont, Petworth, Sussex around 1872. Still one of the most important commercial russet apples grown in England. Yellowish-green to golden yellow, more than half covered with a fine ochre russet. Distinctive sweet, rich, nutty flavour, firm flesh, moist rather than dry. A hardy, compact tree.

Our Apple Egremont Russet bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
