Granny Smith is a well known apple of the supermarket shelf. Granny Smith apples are instantly recognizable with their bright green coloured skin. Supposedly discovered by a Mrs Maria Smith growing as a seedling on a rubbish tip in Australia around 1860’s or as a seedling growing in the garden of a Mrs. Thomas Smith of Sydney, Australia around the same time. Granny Smiths are for lovers of very crisp tangy acidic tasting apples. Needs plenty of sunshine to produce the unique taste

Our Apple Granny Smith bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
