KESWICK CODLIN APPLE

Keswick Codling is another very old apple from our Heritage Collection. Originally found as a chance seedling on a rubbish dump sometime during the late 1700’s at Gleaston Castle in the south Lake District area of Cumbria. A local nurseryman from the nearby town of Keswick, John Sander, propagated it and made it a popular apple of the area.

The popularity and reputation of Keswick Codling soon spread as an excellent flavoured early cooking apple producing a lovely sweet frothy puree. An easy going tree reliably producing heavy crops of good quality early cooking apples.

Our Apple Keswick Codling bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
