The King of the Pippins name was given to the apple around 1800 and during the period following it became quite popular. Produces fruit which is somewhat conical in shape, green, yellow skin with brown orange flush and red stripes, with some russeting. Flavour is sharp cox style that sweetens in store. Reasonable disease resistance and good cropping its main benefit being a multi use apple being a cooker and eater and also used to make cider.
Our Apple King of the Pippins bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
