LANES PRINCE ALBERT APPLE

Lanes Prince Albert was originally named Victoria and Albert by its raiser Thomas Squire of Berkhampstead in the 1840’s. It was spotted by a local nurseryman and grower John Lane who promoted the apple and renamed it Lanes Prince Albert in 1857. Needs little attention to reliably produce heavy crops which have all the qualities of a typical English cooking apple. A shiny rich green skin with orange-red flushing, a fine-textured white juicy flesh which cooks to nice ‘appley’ flavoured puree. Stores well and keeps until March when it mellows enough to eat.

Our Apple Lanes Prince Albert bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
