LAXTONS ADVANCE APPLE

Laxtons Advance Apple is not often grown these days and rather overshadowed by its more famous Laxton variety cousins, Laxtons Advance is a very worthwhile early dessert apple, a Cox’s Orange Pippin x Gladstone cross, bred by the famous Laxton Brothers Nursery in Bedfordshire in 1908. Not a heavy cropper but its yellow- green skin with a red flush has a juicy sweet flesh with a strong aromatic hint. Best eaten straight from the tree. Not necessarily a tree for the casual amateur but well worth growing in any heritage apple collection.

Our Apple Laxtons Advance bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
