LORD DERBY APPLE

Lord Derby makes large green cooker turning yellow with age. A firm sub acid flesh which is good for pies. Strong sharp flavour requiring some sugar when cooked. Heavy cropper and regarded by some as the best cooker if used when still fresh in November and December before the green skin turns to yellow. Bred by a Stockport nursery in Cheshire 1862 making it a good choice for northern or exposed areas and with good disease resistance. Also has attractive apple pink blossom in spring

Our Apple Lord Derby bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
