LORD STRADBROKE APPLE
Lord Stradbroke is a sweet tasting cooker that was raised by Lord Stradbroke’s head gardener, Mr Fenn, at Henham Hall near Wangford, Suffolk in 1900. Mr Fenn was dutifully awarded the RHS Certificate of Merit in 1905 for his work. The apple has many names, most commonly known as Lord Stradbroke but also rather rebelliously as Fenn’s Wonder or Fenn’s Seedling. Its large round shape is covered with a deep red almost maroon ribbed skin which contains light flesh with excellent cooking qualities.
Our Apple Lord Stradbroke bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
Available in economy and premium selection
Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
