MONARCH APPLE

Monarch is a large red cooking apple ripening attractively to yellow/white, heavily flushed with crimson. It originated in Essex in 1888 and flourishes in wet climates. When the Apple Monarch is cooked it turns into a beautiful creamy puree fit for any use.

Apple Monarch is versatile, rosy red, cooking apple, its season lasts from approximately December to April. Apple Monarch can also be used as dessert apple, like Bramley, late in the season.

It has a reputation that it’s trees are resistant to scab, very prolific and of compact growth. This makes it an ideal variety, even in small gardens. The trees flower and are tolerant of late frosts.

Our Apple Monarch bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
