MORGAN SWEET APPLE

Morgan Sweet is an attractive green/yellow colour and the trees are large and vigorous. The greenish-yellow apple ferments quickly, making it an ideal early cider-maker. If not used in the first cider of the season, the sugary refreshing juice is light and can be enjoyed as an early season dessert.

Apple Morgan Sweet was widely-grown in Somerset early in the twentieth century. Although it was supposedly a cider apple - at a time when fresh food was in short supply Morgan Sweet was a sweet and tasty treat. It can certainly be eaten fresh but it also makes a great cider apple.

Although first officially recorded in Devon in the 1880's, there are some that say this old Somerset breed dates back 300 years. The growth of the Morgan Sweet tree is vigorous and they swiftly mature into a very high yielding, upright tree. The fruit are ripe in early to mid September.

Our Apple Morgan Sweet bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
