SOMERSET REDSTREAK APPLE
Somerset Red Streak is typical old bitter sweet cider variety and still one of the main commercial cider varieties grown still today. The name Somerset Redstreak is possibly a collective name for very similar apples all originating not surprisingly from Somerset and around the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. The fruit is typical smallish sized with attractive red and crimson streaks over a green yellow background. Somerset Redstreak produces what in cider making terms is regarded as a medium bitter sweet cider. Easy to grow generally with few disease or pest problems and usually a heavy cropper.
Our Apple Somerset Redstreak bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
Available in economy and premium selection
Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
