LONICERA TRAGOPHYLLA

My favourite large flowered Honeysuckle this rather unusual form is not often offered for sale. Truly impressive large yellow followers nearly 10cms long appear during June and July. Its only disappointment is unlike other Honeysuckles the flowers are not scented. However Lonicera tragophylla is still well worth growing for the spectacle of the flowers alone, in fact it’s a must for any collector of choice plants.
The large plain green leaves are deciduous and Lonicera tragophylla grows best in almost complete shade. It’s a strong grower once got going and needs plenty of space to climb, ideal if allowed to scramble up through a tree. Discovered by the Augustus Henry in western China and introduced by the famous plant hunter Ernest Wilson around 1900
