This erect, fern-like perennial takes the appearance of cow-parsley when flowering in early summer and is often planted in herb gardens. It produces crowded umbels of white flowers that give off an aniseed-like scent. It is often used in salads or can be combined with hot fruits. It is a good pollenating plant and is frequently used for wildlife. In winter, the dried decorative seed heads appear quite architectural.
