Peasgood Nonsuch is a highly esteemed apple, it’s another of the versatile varieties that can be both cooked and enjoyed eaten fresh. It holds the reputation for being the largest of the dessert apples.
Apple Peasgood Nonsuch was raised in Lincolnshire in 1853 by Mrs Peasgood; the apple was celebrated for its appearance as well as its other qualities by the RHS. The Apple Peasgood Nonsuch is an attractive and large fruit with distinctive skin patterns. When young, the fruit often has a red patch on its yellow skin, which splits into striped with the ripening process. The flesh of the young apple is soft, juicy and pleasantly sharp. Once cooked it gives a sweet and light puree. The fruit also bears a sweet aroma.
The tree is pretty when in flower, making it a good choice for gardens. The flowers are white and larger than other varieties, with pink buds. The Peasgood Nonsuch tree is vigorous with a tendency to spread and is fully hardy.
Our Apple Admiral bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.
We use and recommend planting with friendly myccorrhizal fungi such as Rootgrow. This helps to produce a stronger root system thereby aiding establishment. We also use and can supply Blood, Fish and Bone - a tried and trusted natural all round fertilizer. Alternatively, to help give your tree the best start you can incorporate our carefully blended mix of compost to help give your tree all the vital nutrients and minerals it needs to flourish in your garden. It is good practice to firmly secure and support your tree with a good stake and tie to aid in its establishment.
