Quercus nigra

CALL

Prefers damp or wet ground hence its common name the 'Water Oak'. Deep green glossy leaves, chunky in outline and somewhat variable. Not the easiest or prettiest of oaks to grow, prefering relatively lime free soil

Quercus phellos

CALL

The Willow Leaf oak. Glossy mid green narrow willow like leaves that turn good shades of yellow and orange in autumn. In time makes a large tree.

Quercus Pondaim

Another rare and very collectable oak makes a small tree with large glossy dark green leaves a hybrid btween Q. pontica and Q dentata part of a group called the Pondaim Group raised by J R P van Hoey in the 1960's

The 'Golden Oak'. Stunning in spring when eventully the bright golden yellow leaves appear, these slowly tone to an equally beautiful soft golden yellow throughout the summer. Makes a small tree.

A superb selection of this rare and splendid oak. Large evergreen dark green laurel like leaves the new leaves a stunning scarlet.

Quercus shumardii

Known in its native southern United States as the Swamp Red oak, but seems to grow here quite happily without the need of a swamp. Attractive deeply cut and lobed leaves with tufts of hair inbetween the veins. Good autumn colouring

Another rare North American oak for the collection, introduced around the early 1800's. Makes a medium sized tree, pronounced deeply lobed leaves, the undersides of the leaves covered by a thickly hairy felt like matting
