ARALIA SPINOSA

Aralia spinosa is commonly known as the Devil's Walking stick and for good reason; the branches of this striking large shrub are covered in conspicuous thorny spines so certainly no human would be able to use these as a walking stick. Aralia spinosa posse’s magnificent large pinnate leaves similar in form to Ash but much larger and more ornamental. In July on more mature plants large showy panicles of white flowers appear.
Aralia spinosa is native to North Eastern America unlike the more common available Aralia elata, which is native to Japan. This easy to grow shrub is normally hardy within the UK and gives any planting scheme a more exotic feel.
