RED DEVIL APPLE

Red Devil is a relatively modern dessert apple, developed by Hugh Ermen a very influential apple enthusiast and named after the Red Devil Parachute team. This mid-season apple is distinguishable by its attractive pink juice and unusual red flesh. The flesh of the Red Devil is crisp and strongly fruity; the flavour often described as strawberry-like.

The flesh of the Red Devil apple is in fact white, but it becomes stained with red pigment which grows inwards from the skin. One parent of the Red Devil is Discovery, which sometimes shares this characteristic to a lesser degree.

The Red Devil tree is a popular garden variety in the UK; as well as its attractive pink and zesty flesh it is self fertile and has a well earned reputation for good resistance to disease. It is also an ideal fruit tree for all areas, being hardy to most weather conditions. The fruit are best picked in September and eaten straight from the tree or can be stored until end of December.

Our Red Devil Apple bare rooted trees are lifted in November and made available through to March when the apple trees are dormant; this period is the ideal time for planting. Once the bare root season has come to an end you can choose from our selection of pot grown apple trees, which are available for planting all year round.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
