ROXBURY RUSSET APPLE (BOSTON RUSSET)

Roxbury Russet is a historic apple, its quite a large russet that makes extremely good eating, the golden yellow skin is reminiscent of an Ashmead’s Kernel apple with its russet skin and creamy flesh colour. Apple Roxbury Russet is sweet and juicy, exactly what makes a great eating apple, especially when picked from a tree in your own back garden.

Apple Roxbury Russet is generally recognised to be the oldest variety of apple which originated in North America, its history can be traced right back to the colonial era when it is thought to have been bought over by early European settlers. They do say every apple has a story.

Our Apple Roxbury Russet bare rooted trees are lifted at the start of the bare root season in November, when the apple trees become dormant, and made available through to March the following year. This period is the ideal time for economical planting. You will however have to wait a year to pick your crop as bare root trees cannot be picked in their first year. For all year round planting why not choose from our selection of container grown apple trees. They do cost more but are older, more established and ready to crop.

Available in economy and premium selection

Economy - rooted into its pot but a further season before moving up a pot size.
Premium - more growth in its pot. More mature than Economy
